Résumé for A&S Activities
The following list does not include classes taken, nor projects made for personal use by me or others.
Jan. 2025: A&S Champs: judged 3 entries (hide processing, trepanation, small leather pouch).
Aug. 2024: at Pennsic 51: gave two hour-long presentations on leather embroidery, both at 8pm as slideshows.
April 2024: A&S Faire: judged 3 entries (bocce, leatherwork, mead).
April 2024: Ice Dragon: judged 4 entries (shoes, decorated sheaths, mead, knife and sheath).
Aug. 2023: At Pennsic 50: taught two five-hour classes on making openwork shoes. Gave two hour-long presentations on leather embroidery. Had poster and work samples at Open A&S Display for a few hours.
April 2023: sponsored Avitoria vidua at the A&S Faire, and advised two other participants there. Entered kingdom championship brewing contest with barley-to-brewski ale and won with it.
April 2023: Academy of St. Clare: developed and presented a new slide-show lecture covering my research and cataloging of all surviving period embroidered leather. Also displayed three pairs of embroidered shoes.
March 2023: Ice Dragon: judged 4 entries. Also displayed fancy embroidered shoes there.
November 2022: developed and presented a workshop on openwork shoes at the Fall Æcademy in Abhainn Ciach Ghlais.
August 2022: taught four Pennsic classes: leather embroidery and crannogs, twice each. Represented Æthelmearc as a Laurel in the A&S Warpoint with embroidered shoes. Displayed the same during the Pennsic open A&S display.
June 2022: developed and presented a class on crannogs at the Spring Æcademy in Coppertree.
April 2022: presented at the Academy of St. Clare on embroidery on leather items.
March 2022: judged four entries for Ice Dragon; won best of show with "Amor Vincit Omnia" embroidered shoes; awarded special armband by King Gareth for the Bièresyeux Capestry display.
Jan. 2022 - Apr. 2023: Minister of A&S for the Dominion of Myrkfaelinn.
Oct. 2021: judged three entries at Kingdom A&S Championship (near Pittsburgh).

Feb. 29, 2020: elevated to the Order of the Laurel at the College of Three Ravens.
Feb. 2020: won Region 5 Brewing Competition at Seven Deadlies with cask-aged smoked peat bog myrtle oven baked ale; participated in round-table judging of all entries.
Jan. 2020: ran a shoe-making workshop in Coppertree for 6 people.
Dec. 2019: donated tawed bycocket with jingle bells and peacock feather for prize table at Holiday Shoot.
November 2019: Kingdom Arts & Sciences Championship: displayed mega shoe show; displayed A&S Champions Book and donated it to Æthelmearc (and made a web page for it earlier); judged four championship entries; received Laurel writ.
September 2019: tied for win in populace vote at Harvest Raid A&S display for entry of tawed hat and shoes.
August 2019: hosted a set of 12 shoes/shoe-related projects at the Pennsic Arts & Sciences Display. Also taught four classes at Pennsic: Boar's Bristles for Sewing Leather (Tues. 4pm: 23 students), Bone Ice Skates (Tues. 3pm: 7 students), Embroidering Leather Shoes (Mon. 3pm: 21 students), and Repairing Turnshoes (Mon. 4pm: 12 students). Participated in the Stone Beer Brewing Workshop and tended Æthelmearc bar.
July 2019: brewed Pennsic Peat Ale for the Æthelmearc Royalty Challenge and the Kingdom Bar. Made shoes for the elevations for Kelda and Hrolfr.
May 2019: produced two yeast-comparing brews for the UlfBrau Challenge and presented them at Æthelmearc War Practice brewing showcase and competition.
May 2019: published my Pent projects' documentation as exemplars for others to use when writing their own A&S competition entries, and made a page with general related advice.
April 2019: took 2nd place in the Ice Dragon Pentathlon (applied research paper for bone ice skates, pears stuffed with almonds, braggot drink in cask, leather purse, heraldic glass window ). Entered shoes as part of a group entry that won the 5-in-1 Pent category. Displayed a set of 12 shoes/shoe-related projects on separate pair of tables. Shadow-judged illumination entries.
Feb. 2019: won Region 5 Brewing Competition with cask-aged Rauchbier; participated in round-table judging of all entries.
Jan. 2019: displayed bone ice skates at Birka event in the East Kingdom.
Dec. 2018: donated a pair of bespoke embroidered shoes as a prize in the annual Coppertree Holiday Shoot.
Nov. 2018: Æthelmearc Gazette article on bone ice skates.
Nov. 2018: taught a day-long shoe-making workshop at Fall Æcademy.
Nov. 2018: displayed poulaines at Fall Æcademy.
Oct. 2018: entered embroidered turnshoes & bone skates into the Æthelmearc Arts & Sciences Championship. Achieved high score and named kingdom champion for the year.
Sept. 2018: won populace vote for embroidered turnshoes & bone skates in the Harvest Raid / Coronation A&S contest and display.
Sept. 2018: set up a shoe-making demo table at local non-SCA event Dryden Fun Day.
Sept. 2018: set up a shoe-making demo table at Shoot in the Wildwood / Cast Iron Chef.
Aug. 2018: taught a Pennsic course on the use of boar's bristles for sewing shoes.
June 2018: taught a day-long shoe-making workshop at Spring Æcademy (this was the Æcademy's first day-long workshop of any sort; awarded the Countess Aidan ni Leir Memorial Fellowship prize for equipment purchase).
May 2018: made a pair of embroidered shoes for both Sven and Siobhán, king and queen of Æthelmearc, as part of their wardrobe team.
April 2018: entered the Ice Dragon Pentathlon (toy leather ball, arrows, ale, shoes for the 5-in-1 category). Shadow-judged some entries.
Oct. 2017: entered A&S Championships with two pairs of shoes. Oct. 2017: donated a pair of bespoke shoes to the silent Myrkfaelinn Skóla auction.
Sept. 2017: made a pair of shoes for both Gareth and Juliana, king and queen of Æthelmearc, as part of their wardrobe team.
May 2017: won the East Kingdom's Wars of the Roses brewing competition with my Worts of the Roses drinks (Yorkist Wit Bier and Lancastrian Red Ale).
May 2017: entered and won the Æthelmearc Arts & Sciences Faire and Queen’s Prize Tourney with a pair of child's shoes.
